The city borders on the municipalities of Biblis, Bürstadt, Lorsch, Viernheim (all in the Bergstrasse district), Hemsbach (in the Rhine-Neckar district), in the west on the independent city of Worms and the municipality of Bobenheim-Roxheim (both in Rhineland-Palatinate) and in the south on Mannheim or its districts Sandhofen and Kirschgartshausen (Baden-Württemberg). It is the third largest city in the Bergstrasse district.
In addition to the core city, the villages of Hofheim, Hüttenfeld, Neuschloß and Rosengarten belong to the city of Lampertheim as districts. There are also the settlements and homestead groups Heide, Oberlache-Rosenau, Am Küblinger Damm, Lache, An der Wormser Straße, In den Böllenruthen, In den Ruthen, Wehrzollhaus, Wildbahn and Seehof as residential areas.
The municipal area is divided into the districts of Lampertheim, Hofheim, Hüttenfeld and Rosengarten. Parts of the formerly independent district of Seehof were incorporated into Lampertheim in 1971 as part of the territorial reform.
