The town of Hünfeld has an excellent infrastructure with very good medical care such as general practitioners, specialists, dentists and of course the Helios Clinic, a train and bus station, all schools, various shopping facilities and leisure facilities with an outdoor and indoor swimming pool.
The town of Hünfeld is a medium-sized center in the district of Fulda. As an East Hessian town in the nature park and
Rhön biosphere reserve, Hünfeld is an important business, employment and shopping location.
The town is also home to the "Hessisches Kegelspiel" tourism association, a vacation region in the heart of Germany that is particularly dedicated to soft tourism. In the course of the municipal
territorial reform in Hesse in 1972, 14 formerly independent municipalities were incorporated into the town. The population grew from 7,500 at the time to 16,000 today. As a result of this territorial and
administrative reform, Hünfeld also became one of the largest towns in Hesse. The municipal area increased from 12 to around 120 square kilometers.
Hünfeld is located in the heart of Germany. The traditionally close economic, cultural and human ties with the towns and municipalities in the neighboring Thuringian region
could be resumed after the fall of the border. In addition to its location on the most important north/south routes in Germany, halfway between Hamburg and Munich
Hünfeld is now also crossed by the increasingly important east/west traffic routes. The B 84 federal highway, which runs through Hünfeld, is one of the most important connecting roads to Eisenach and Erfurt. The town is located in a north/south direction on the A 7 highway and the B 27 federal highway as well as within easy reach of the A 66 highway.
There are convenient intercity and ICE connections to all major cities via the nearby regional center of Fulda (17 km). As a medium-sized center with a wide range of jobs and leisure activities, the town's catchment area includes the large municipalities of Burghaun, Eiterfeld, Nüsttal and Rasdorf as well as the nearby Thuringian villages of the historic Geisaer Amt.
