Bad Langensalza is a very lovable town and looks back on an impressive history. As one of only five Thuringian woad towns, the town was allowed in the Middle Ages to trade in the very expensive plant woad, which provides a blue substance for dyeing, which was of great importance in the past. This led to enormous prosperity, of which the very well preserved and third largest old town in Thuringia still bears witness today.
