Worpswede is a municipality in the district of Osterholz to the north-east of Bremen, located in the middle of the Teufelsmoor, and is a state-recognized health resort. The town is located on the 51-meter-high elevation of the Weyerberg. The town is known for the Worpswede artists' colony, founded in 1889 as a living and working community for artists. The "Künstlerhäuser Worpswede" (Worpswede artists' residences) was one of the largest in Germany until 2009. Worpswede is home to numerous cultural institutions and galleries.
