Bad Zwesten (until 1992 Zwesten) is a municipality in the Schwalm-Eder district of northern Hesse, where there is a mineral spring known as Bad Zwestener Löwensprudel. The town is a health resort with two clinics and has been known as a spa and climatic health resort since 1992. Bad Zwesten is located in the eastern foothills of the Kellerwald about 8 km (as the crow flies) south-east of Bad Wildungen. The town and its districts are located in the valleys of the Schwalm, a southern tributary of the Eder, and its tributaries Wälzebach and Urff. It also lies on the eastern border of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park. The southern districts of Oberurff-Schiffelborn and Niederurff are located on the Urff, which flows into the Schwalm below Niederurff. The highest elevation is the 636-metre-high Hunsrück in the Kellerwald, not to be confused with the Hunsrück low mountain range to the west of the Rhine. Bad Zwesten borders the town of Fritzlar to the north, the town of Borken to the east, the municipalities of Neuental and Jesberg (all in the Schwalm-Eder district) to the south and the municipality of Haina and the town of Bad Wildungen (both in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district) to the west. The A49 can be reached in 10 minutes via the B3 in the direction of Borken, providing a good connection to Kassel and Central Hesse (Ohmtal A5/A49 junction).
