Herne/Eickel
The southern part of the city is located about five kilometers southwest of the center of Herne and has a mix of basic and better standard housing, as well as some commercial and open space. Utility and housing standards are traditionally better in Eickel than in Wanne to the north. The main street, which is considered a supply center, leads into the old city center, the Eickler Markt. Around a small pedestrian zone are grouped the administration of Hülsmann AG, a new row house district with interesting architecture and the former Bauerei, as well as some restaurants and pubs. Around the Volksgarten is Eickel's most popular residential area, but people also like living further north around the sports park. The Röllinghausen area has developed into a quite popular residential location with single-family houses and low-rise large buildings after comprehensive urban redevelopment measures. On the site of the former Königsgrube colliery, in the far south, is the beautifully landscaped park.
A40, A43 in the immediate vicinity, bus and partly S-Bahn direction Bochum Herne main station.
