Barop lies approximately 3km to the south of the city centre, conveniently close to the university and technology park. Adjoining to the east is a park (Bolmke) and to the west, the residential area Menglinghausen. As you head towards the city centre, you will pass through the district of Brünninghausen with its detached houses. To the south lies Renninghausen.
